Backing Up to Get a Running Start

Dan Millman, author of The Way of the Peaceful Warrior said "When we feel stuck, going nowhere -even starting to slip backward - we may actually be backing up to get a running start."

I love that quote. I've had it taped to my monitor for years. It helps me when I'm feeling lost. Good words to remind me that I can still do anything I want. And so can you. Even when I don't FEEL like I can. Maybe I'm just backing up to get a running start. Love it!

So this morning Jacks and I went on our walk. The weather was gorgeous when we left. We walked several miles. I puzzled over what was up with my dog. I couldn't put my finger on exactly what was wrong with her. She was jumpy and more pulley than usual. In fact, some guy sped past us on his bike, came up behind us, which startled her. She bumped up behind me and hit the back of my knees. Me, being the EX-super athelete that I am, fell---bang onto the concrete. Bloody knees and all. But what can you do? So I pulled my rather ample self off the ground and continued walking toward home. Another guy on a bike, this time coming toward us so Jacks could see him, hollered at me that I'd be getting wet soon. I was still about 2 miles from home. So we picked up the pace but who can out-manuver Mother Nature?

What I found so interesting was that while Jacks was on the leash, she had to stop and shake off the rain every couple of steps, as if the rain was acid which was tormenting her. But as soon as we got home, she TORE outside to explore everything in the pouring down rain. With no shaking it off. Like...what's up with that?
